Are you working your butt off to plan the perfect baby shower for a mama to be? Been there, done that! Holy smokes it can be overwhelming. You’ve got to find the most magical location, have Instagram worthy snacks, find games that everyone will love, and make the guest of honor feel like the goddess she is. It’s a lot!
Listen, friend, I know you are probably drowning in the stress right now. It’s a lot of pressure to get it right. However, you don’t need to stress for one more second. Seriously, stop it right now. I’ve created an awesome guide for you that walks you through the planning process step by step. Ready to dive in? Let’s go!
Pick the Right Date & Time
Before you can do anything else, you need to pick a date and time for the big event. I’m begging you to not complete this step without looping in the mama to be. Find out what time of day she feels the best. Unfortunately, morning sickness isn’t just limited to the first trimester or the mornings. Vomiting should not be included in the party schedule unless you are planning a college rager. So, make sure you consider that and find the time of day where she is at her best.
Also, be sure to ask what month of pregnancy she would like to celebrate in. It is most common for showers to be held in the third trimester. However, that might not be what the guest of honor would like best. She may be worried about a premature delivery or she may just be wanting to celebrate early before she gets too worn down. Either way, it’s important to go against the grain of what everyone wants if it’s what makes the mama comfortable.
Find the Right Location
Now that you have the timing of the event all set, it’s time to move on to the location. The numero uno aspect I want you to consider when choosing the location is the guest of honor’s vibe. Are they low key? Do they like over the top and extravagant? Are they charitable? Do they enjoy nature? Is air conditioning their best friend? All of these questions are important to consider. If you don’t know the answer, then be sure to ask.
I know first hand how intimidating finding the right location can be. However, it doesn’t matter if you’ve got 100s or 1,000s to spend. I can still help you find the perfect spot. Are they super low key and private? Host the event in your home. Maybe they prefer more extravagant events? Rent out an event space at a high-end hotel and go big baby. Are they a total foodie? Consider hosting a brunch in their favorite restaurant. The options here really are endless. You may just have to get a little creative.
Order and Mail the Invitation
I don’t know about you, but I think finding the right invitation can be a bit of a drag. I always get so intimidated looking through the never-ending options trying the find the perfect fit. It’s totally overwhelming! Who’s with me?

Don’t Forget the Food!
If you are a total foodie like me, then you understand just how important this step is. People love baby shower food. It’s delicious, sweet, and the perfect excuse to down a few extra carbs. So, you don’t want to let people down here. No pressure, right?
Seriously though, there’s really no need to be intimidated. People tend to be pretty happy when their bellies are full. So, just make sure you cover your bases on enough food and drinks and you’ll be golden.
I recommend keeping options light and steering towards finger foods. These are easiest for people to eat while they mingle and move about the room. If you can, try to tie the foods you are serving into the party theme. It’s absolutely not necessary but always provides a fun touch. If you are stuck on inspiration, then please head over to Pinterest. They’ve got plenty of great options to get you started!
Pick the Best Activities
Fun fact, I never knew just how polarizing baby shower games could be until I tried to plan a shower myself. Some people love them and some people hate them, but everyone has an opinion on them. It can be exhausting trying to plan activities that everyone will love.
I know that can be a bit discouraging to hear. However, you’ve got to push through and plan at least a few activities. There are bound to be a few awkward moments of silence during the shower and games are a great way to help break that up.
The most important thing to consider when planning baby shower activities is the mama’s comfort level.
Please hear this, you absolutely do not want to plan an activity that makes her uncomfortable. So, take the time to consider whether she likes to be the center of attention or if she prefers to blend in and be apart of the group. Does she have a killer sense of humor or is she more serious in public? These are all great questions to ask yourself when choosing the right activities. If you are ever in doubt, then just show the activity to the mama to be beforehand and let her approve. Not everything has to be a surprise.
