Winter is one of the most magical times of the year. The snow is beautiful, the sweaters are comfy, and the cocoa is delicious. However, that magic can start to wear off pretty quickly if winter overstays its welcome. If your kids are anything like mine, then they start to go stir crazy rather quickly. It’s important to find a way to get them out of the house and let them run off all that energy. Finding a place to do that during the winter can be difficult, especially if you live in a small town like I do. After all, you can only walk through Target so many days of the week.
Our winter ran a little long this year. In fact, we still had snow on the ground at the beginning of Spring Break. After months and months of cold weather, my daughter and I just couldn’t take it anymore. So, we decided to take a mini vacay to beat the winter blues. We are very blessed to have a fabulous indoor waterpark just 30 minutes away from us. It’s the perfect weekend getaway. Parrot Cove Waterpark helped my family beat the winter blues this year. I highly recommend you check them out, so your family can have as great of a time as mine did.
Parrot Cove Waterpark is located in Garden City, Kansas. The waterpark is attached to the Heritage Inn & Suites, which is the perfect family hotel. The rooms are all very spacious and clean. The staff is extremely friendly and always helpful. In fact, one of the front desk workers was sweet enough to send my daughter home with a hotel key. She wanted to help her start a collection to remember all of our travels with. It’s moments like these where staff members go above and beyond that really makes a hotel stand out. Before I forget, I have to mention that their breakfast is delicious! There are a ton of great options. So, even your picky eaters will be able to find something they enjoy.
Speaking of food, Heritage Inn & Suites and Parrot Cove Waterpark are located next to some great dining options. They are right next to Old Chicago. This is the perfect option for a family wanting to grab something to go and enjoy it in their rooms. Within the same shopping center, you also have a Rib Crib, Buffalo Wild Wings, and Osaka Steak and Sushi. There are also good drive through options just a few minutes away like McDonalds, Wendys, and Arbys.
The waterpark is available for all hotel guests as well as being open to the public. However, on Saturdays and Sundays Parrot Cove opens one hour early for hotel guests only. This is a great opportunity to beat the crowds, snag yourself a chair, and have some fun.
Parrot Cove Waterpark has something for every member of the family. They have two seperate play areas dedicated to children under 5. Castaway Cay is a great place for your young child to find adventure. It features multiple slides, different climbing toys, and plenty of spraying water to keep them on their toes. Be sure to listen for the buzzer, or you might end up getting a bigger splash than you bargained for! Lil’ Explores Reef is the second play area dedicated to small children. Compared to Castaway Cay it is a bit calmer. I recommend it for little ones who are more apprehensive around water or are 2 and under. It has a small gator slide, a fun waterfall, and gentle spray features.
There are plenty of other features of Parrot Cove for older members of the family to enjoy too! They have four water slides (2 inner-tube slides and 2 body slides). A climbing wall, known as Coral Cliffs, which is perfect for the adventurer of the family. A great challenge course in Everglade Lagoon, where you can attempt to cross the pool by moving from lily pad to lily pad. Just don’t slip off! Key Lime Creek is their signature lazy river which features waterfalls and spraying water. You can go down enjoy this river in single inner-tubes, double inner-tubes, or just float through on your own.
If you find yourself needing a bite to eat while at the waterpark just hop on over to the Snack Shack. Here you’ll find a selection of meal options, some delicious snacks and sides, yummy sweet treats, and a selection of beverages. What I love so much about the Snack Shack is that they offer a great selection of healthy options too including carrot sticks, fruit cups, hummus and pretzels, and salads. Yum! By the way parents, I didn’t forget about you. Be sure to sneak on over to the snack shack for a little adult beverage when you need a little break. They offer a selection of bear, wine, and other alcoholic beverages like Moscow Mules and Pina Coladas.
The fun at Parrot Cove doesn’t just end in the water. They also have a great arcade on site for families to enjoy. The arcade is located directly outside of the entrance to the waterpark. It is reserved for hotel and waterpark guests only. Here you’ll find a wide variety of games for all ages to enjoy. Some of our favorites were ski ball, motorcycle racing, and basketball. It was the perfect addition to our waterpark vacation.
Parrot Cove Waterpark made the perfect weekend getaway for our family. If you’re in desperate need of some quality family time, then I highly recommend you check them out. No matter what your kids’ ages are, how long your visit is, or what season you travel; Parrot Cove has something for you. I can guarantee it will be a trip you never forget.
