The first few months of your baby’s life is such a unique time. It’s a time that is full of a lot of ups and downs. There are definitely difficult parts of the newborn phase. For example, the extreme sleep deprivation. However, there are some truly amazing aspects of it as well. In the end, the good absolutely overpowers the bad. It may seem overwhelming right now, but one day you will miss these moments. Take it from me. My daughter is only 8 months old and I already have baby fever. I miss those sweet newborn days so badly that I can’t wait to have another baby. Here are the top 5 things that I miss about the newborn days.
The immobility – One of the best parts of the newborn phase is that they can’t move. It’s wonderful to be able to lay your baby down without worrying about them wondering off. You don’t have to think about everything they could get into or the ways they could get hurt. It’s easy to get excited thinking about your baby learning to crawl, walk, and run. However, take the time to cherish the phase you are in now. Yes, it’s wonderful to watch your child master new skills. However, those new skills bring a lot of chaos along with the excitement. So, take the time to relish in the peace you have now.
The sweet snuggles – There isn’t anything better than the sweet snuggles of a newborn. Once your child is mobile it becomes very difficult to get any cuddle time. So, take advantage of the snuggles when you can get them. Don’t be afraid to rock your baby to sleep or hold them during their naps. Go ahead and pick them up and love on them when they cry. Give them all the sweet kisses they will take. These moments will fly by faster than you know. Soon, your reality won’t be a day full of snuggles and love. Instead, it will be chasing a toddler around the room trying to get them to sit still for 5 minutes.
The delicious smell – The fresh and clean scent of a newborn baby is just magical. I wish you could bottle up their scent so you could cherish it forever. It’s an intoxicating scent and you just can’t get enough of it. Heck, even their explosively dirty diapers don’t smell too bad. So, take in their scent as much as you can when they are little. It will slowly wear off. A little bit will slip away each day. Soon, you will go take a sniff and realize that delicious smell is gone.
The teeny tiny everything – Everything newborn just screams tiny human and I love it. Holding your tiny newborn in your arms in one of the best feelings in the world. It’s almost too good to be true. You realize just how vulnerable and precious life is when you look down at them. One of the best parts are those teeny little fingers and toes. The best feelings is when they wrap those sweet fingers around yours. Don’t forget about the clothes that you will put that tiny body into. The small onesies, sweet socks, and short pants are to die for. It will almost break your heart when you have to pack them up and put them away.
The liquid diet – A great part of the newborn phase is your baby’s diet. During this time they only need breastmilk and formula. It’s something to cherish. Soon, you will be introducing solids and that is a game changer. Feeding your baby will become quite tricky. You’ll have to find a good balance between milk and solids. You’ll have to prepare another persons food. Then, you’ll have to convince them to eat it. Oh and let’s not forget the diapers. Diapers after solids are a game changer. So, take advantage of your baby’s liquid diet. It really is the best.
