Being a first time mom I had no idea what baby products to buy (other than the essentials) for our daughter Olivia. The first three months of her life were truly trial and error to find what worked best for her. Luckily for me she has a very strong personality – just like her mom and dad do. Because of that personality she had no problem telling us when something worked and when something didn’t. Today I want to share with you my list of favorite baby products for 0-3 month olds.
There are so many other products that we have used and liked that didn’t make the list, but I wanted this to truly be a list of favorite baby products. Therefor, I am only sharing my top picks. These are products that we use almost everyday and that I just couldn’t live without. I hope my list can give other first time moms an idea of what baby products to purchase for their little ones.
Favorite Baby Products
Toys and Learning
Activity Gym – The first on my list of favorite baby products is the Bright Starts 5 in 1 Your Way Ball Play Activity Gym (that’s a mouthful). I cannot stress to you enough how much our daughter loves this activity gym. I honestly think that she would spend all day in here if I would let her. She loves the elephant that lights up and plays music. It comes with a great variety of toys in different textures and that make different sounds. I also love that the sides fold up to turn into a ball pit for when she starts to sit up. I love a toy that converts with age because I feel like I get more for my money. In my opinion this is a must have product!
Ring O’ Links – Another one of our favorite baby products are Sassy Ring O’ Links. Olivia doesn’t play with many toys yet, but she has taken a large interest in these. We hook them inside of her activity center when she is home. She loves practicing grabbing with these and swinging them around. We have also hook them onto her carseat to help keep her calm when we travel.
Black and White Book – The first toy Olivia took notice of was the Sassy Who Loves Baby? Look Book Photo Album. Each page is a different black and white pattern. She has loved this book since we introduced it to her at only a couple weeks old. We set it on the changing table for her to look at while we change her. We have also used it for tummy time to encourage her to lift her head. One of the best things about it is it almost always calms her down when she is fussy. I keep it in her diaper bag when we are out and about to help keep her entertained.
Travel System – We purchased the Chicco Cortina CX Keyfit 30 Travel System and we love it! I truly cannot say enough great things about this travel system. It is on the top of my list for baby product favorites and is definitely worth the money. Let’s start with the carseat. I love using our Chicco Keyfit 30 infant carseat. It is extremely easy and quick to install in your car. It is also very compact. I have a Mazda 3 which can be very difficult to fit carseats in, but the Keyfit works! It also fit my daughter extremely well from the first day we brought her home.
I also love having the convenience of a travel system. When we are out it’s great that I don’t have to remove her from her carseat to put her into her stroller. The carseat just clicks right in. It’s also nice that when I chose to not use the carseat the stroller can lay completely flat. We use it in this setting when we just go on walks outside during the day and she always falls asleep. The last thing I will mention about this stroller is how easy it is to fold and unfold. That was a huge plus for me!
Rock ‘N Play – I love our Rock ‘n Play that we got for our girl. It has been a true life saver when it comes to sleep. Before we purchased the Rock ‘n Play she would only nap on me during the day. While I loved spending that time with my girl I needed a part of the day where I could get some things done. The Rock ‘n Play is still the only thing I can get her to sleep in for naps that isn’t me. I am dreading the day that she outgrows this.
Sound Machine – We purchased the Tranquil Moments Bedside Speaker and Sound Machine for our daughters room and boy am I glad we did. She absolutely can’t sleep without white noise blaring in the background. This speaker is a great buy. Not only does it have white noise, but it has a variety of other sounds that will be calming to her as she gets older. It is also very compact so we take it with us wherever we go. The best part about it is that it doesn’t need to be plugged in to work. So, when she gets fussy in the car I can just turn this on and set it in the backseat next to her carseat.
Similac Alimentum – This is the only one of our favorite baby products that is specific to only our daughter. How you choose to feed your baby is such a deeply personal decision. I just wanted to share our experience with feeding our little girl. Similac Alimentum is the only formula that has worked for her. Once we started trying this it was like a switch flipped. Yes, I nearly go bankrupt every month buying this stuff, but it is so worth the money to have found something she can eat. You can read more in depth about our feeding journey with our daughter here.
Playtex Ventaire Bottles – We have tried a variety of bottles in our journey to find which ones work best for our daughter. We love the Playtex Ventaire Bottles. They are one of my favorite baby products. Out of all of the bottles we have tried these are the best at preventing gas pain while feeding.
Health and Safety
Gripe Water – This is one of our favorite baby products for our medicine cabinet. We originally purchased Gripe Water in hopes that it would help with my daughters colic. Unfortunately, it did not help with her colic, but it is a miracle worker for the hiccups. My daughter gets the hiccups all of the time. We give her Gripe Water and they are gone immediately. I love this product and how fast it works! You can read more about our medicine cabinet must haves here.
Humidifier – Our daughter was born via C-Section and has had congestion ever since we brought her home. Our doctor suggested running a humidifier in her room at night while she sleeps. We purchased a Cool Mist Humidifier for her and we love it. She still struggles with congestion. However, I know her humidifier is helping her because every night that I forget to turn it on she wakes up multiple times because she gets so stuffy – mom fail I know.
Baby Monitor – We were gifted the VTech Digital Audio Baby Monitor and I love this product. Unfortunately, because of the layout of our house we sleep in the basement while our daughter sleeps upstairs in her nursery. I needed to find a monitor that I could trust to get me a clear sound at that distance. This monitor does just that. I can hear every move she makes in her crib which makes me feel so much more comfortable being apart from her at night.
Footies – Our daughter lived in footies the first few months of her life. She sleeps in a fleece footie every night and wears a cotton footie almost everyday. They are just so quick and convenient to put her in. I will do a full outfit when we go out, but if we are just staying home I am all about what is most comfortable for her. Plus they make for a very quick and simple diaper change. Especially, if you get ones with a zipper.
Drool Bibs – Our daughter is a complete drool monster. That is why one of our favorite baby products are drool bibs. These save us from soaking through multiple outfits a day. I would also like to add that they are quite stylish.
Halo SleepSack Swaddle – We have tried quite a few different options for swaddles and sleep sacks since our daughter was born. There are three options that we have tried that we have loved. The first option is the Halo SleepSack Swaddle. We used this for the first 6 weeks that we brought her home. These are a great option for helping to control the startle reflex in your baby. I also love that you secure the swaddle with velcro because then it is harder for them to break free.
Love to Dream Swaddle – At 6 weeks we transitioned our daughter to the Love to Dream Swaddle. At this point she was becoming very frustrated with having her arms strapped down. She loved to sleep with them next to her face. We were still dealing with her startle reflex at this point. I needed something that would allow her to have some freedom to move her arms, but that would still help contain her startle reflex. This was the perfect product for that!
Nested Bean Zen Sack – The last of my favorite baby products for swaddles is the Nested Bean Zen Sack. Our daughter has started a new phase were she can magically sense when mommy leaves the room even if she is sound asleep. This sleep sack has a small weight on the chest to bring your baby comfort at night. This was perfect for us because before we purchased this I would have to stand in her room with my hand on her chest to get her to sleep.
Baby Tub – One of my favorite baby products is the Aquascale Digital Scale & Thermometer 3 in 1 Infant Tub. This is my favorite infant tub for a variety of reasons. I love that I can use it to check her weight in between doctors appointments to make sure she is getting enough to eat. I also enjoy the peace of mind it gives me by measuring the temperature of the water. Lastly, it is very comfortable and secure for infants. My daughter fits very well in it and has since she got her first real bath at a couple weeks old.
Luvs Diapers – We tried a variety of diapers on our daughter before we discovered Luvs. These are our favorite diapers for our little girl. They fit her great and offer the best leak protection out of all the options I have tried so far. With Luvs I am confident that when I put her to bed she can sleep through the night and still wake up dry the next morning.
I am so excited that I am able to share some of our favorite baby products with you. I hope that you found some of our suggestions to be useful for your little ones as well. Did you have any products that you loved that didn’t make my list? If so, please share them in the comments below. Stay tuned for another post summarizing her favorite products for 3-6 months soon!
