I frequently hear people say that being a mom is one of the hardest jobs there is. However, I have to respectfully disagree. I don’t believe that being a mom is a job. You don’t get paid to be a mom – unless you count kisses and hugs as payment. You can’t take a sick day. If you have a bad day you can’t just quit. Being a mom isn’t a job because it isn’t something you do. Instead, it is who you are.
Being a mother may not be a job, but it is hard work. In fact, it’s really hard work. It takes a lot of patience, effort, love, and balance. Moms have to put on a lot of different hats throughout the day. All of the work moms put in earn them some pretty impressive job titles. They may not be able to put “mom” on a resume, but they do have some great titles they could use instead. Here are a few of the well earned job titles moms will hold throughout their lives.
CEO – Moms truly are the glue that holds a house together. Everyday they work hard to keep their house running smoothly. They keep the finances in order by making deposits and paying bills. They are masters at delegating tasks by handing out chores. Moms make sure her kids are always fueled up by keeping the fridge fully stocked. She even takes the time to manage everyone else’s schedules by keeping track of appointments, activities, and other commitments. Without a mom the business of the home would fail.
Housekeeper – Every mom deserves the title of Housekeeper MVP. Keeping a house clean with children is a never ending task. It’s nearly impossible to be caught up on laundry. Toys magically reappear seconds after you put them all away. Drinks are always being spilled and a nice trail of crumbs follow kids everywhere they go. Keeping up with household chores as a mom is a nearly impossible task, but they still get the job done.
Hair Stylist – Everyday moms get to fix not only their hair, but their children’s hair as well. They carefully comb through all the tangles and knots in the morning. They style beautiful braids, perfect pigtails, and magnificent mohawks. This all happens while their children are impatiently squirming and wiggling their way out of their laps.
Event Coordinator – Moms are professional party planners and event coordinators. Nearly every special event in a child’s life can be tracked back to mom. All of the wonderful celebrations like birthday parties and baptisms are carefully planned and executed by mom. In fact, she probably spent months agonizing over every detail to make sure they were perfect. She also gets credit for all of the fabulously fun slumber parties that go off without a hitch. Let’s not forget her everyday task of organizing everyone’s schedules and making sure no one gets forgotten. Mom is a busy gal.
Nurse – Every child has a very special nurse just for them. This nurse is always on call. Her name is mom. Mamas are always around to kiss booboos and magically fix them with bandaids. They check fevers and administer medicine. They’re always on duty for middle of the night vomit cleanup and snuggles. A mom is their child’s favorite nurse.
Teacher – Children start learning way before their first year of school. In fact, their education begins on their first day of life. It is taught by Mrs. Mom. Moms teach their children so many things throughout their lives. It’s hard to name them all. It all starts by teaching babies how to crawl, sit up, and walk. Then moms get to teach abcs, shapes, colors, and sounds. However, some of the most important lessons moms teach aren’t ones you can find in a school. They are the lessons about life. How to love, share, and show kindness. How to be a good person. Moms are the most important teacher in their child’s life.
Chauffeur – Moms spend approximately 90% of their week being a professional taxi driver. Most of their time is spent shuttling their kids to all of their different activities. They take them to and from school. Run them to every practice and sporting event. Take them to every pediatrician, dentist, and eye doctor appointment. However, they don’t just shuttle their own kids around. Most moms find their cars filled to the max not only with their own children, but with their friends as well. The miles that a mom can rack up in a year are truly astonishing.
Referee – This is probably a mothers least favorite job title. Moms have the privilege, more like responsibility, of being the family referee. They are also there to break up arguments between siblings. No matter how badly they wish they were on a remote island by themselves. They are still there to settle even the pettiest of disagreements between their kids.
Head Cheerleader – Every child is blessed with their own personal cheerleader. Their mom is always their biggest fan. Moms are the most comfortable shoulder to cry on. They are always there to listen and then build you back up. The confidence they have in their children is unmeasurable. In a moms eyes there isn’t anything their kids can’t accomplish if they put their minds to it. Every child needs someone like that in their lives.
Personal Chef – Every mother, no matter her culinary skill, is a personal chef. She even has some of the pickiest clientele. Moms wake up early to get a nutritious breakfast on the table. She takes the time to pack a tasty lunch for her kids to take to school. Even after a long day moms still take the time to cook a warm meal for their family to enjoy. She works around multiple people’s likes and dislikes to find a meal everyone can enjoy. Trust me, this job isn’t easy.
